Join Mayda for ReMayda’d 2.0!
Appearing for four nights in an intimate revival of her first full length one woman show, Mayda returns to the stage, this time at Bryant Lake Bowl Theatre, to play some tunes, share her story of transracial adoption, growing up hip hop in St Paul, and discovering an identity beyond labels. She’s on the edge of millenialism, and at the start of something new. Come and enjoy this new take on a riveting rock and roll story, and see a whole new side of Mayda with the direction of her friend Marcel Michele-Mobama, and enjoy Mayda’s eclectic musical roots, from Snoop Dogg to Prince.
Marcel Michelle-Mobama is a Minneapolis based performance artist working with subversion, stereotype, exorcism, connection, and eroticism. When not performing, she is a full time producer, performer, director, choreographer, curator, and all around nasty lady. Marcel combines her experience as a black/latinx/queer/trans womxn with a passionate study of movement, theatre, burlesque, and improv to provide a unique, vulnerable, and varied experience. Her work has appeared in Queertopia, The Minneapolis Burlesque Festival, Patrick’s Cabaret, Soul Friday, The Pink and White Ball, at First Avenue, The Cowles Center, and a few other places. She was a founding member of Carnivale Revolver and Visions of Sugarplums: The Burlesque Nutcracker, and works regularly with Black Hearts Burlesque and 20% Theatre Company, where she also serves as a board member. Each month Marcel is the resident FemCee of Daddy at the Icehouse. Her work Demons in America, for which she wrote, directed, and composed the original score, premiered last spring as part of 20%’s QStage New Works Series.
